Caitlin
We receive lots of comments from people who say they really like the name we gave our baby girl: Caitlin.
Now some of them will probably say it because they don't want to hurt our feelings, but I think there are also some who really like the name because it is quite unique. In Germany it is not a common name and also in Belgium we haven't heard it a lot.
There are different ways of pronouncing the name. Most common is probably [kate-lynn] and that is the one we are using. On Wikipedia they say the following:
Caitlín, also spelled in numerous other ways, including Caightlin, Caitlyn, Caytelyn, Kaitlin, Kaitlyn, Kate Lynn, Katelynn, Kaytlynn, Caitlynn, Katelin, Katelyn, and Katlynne, is a given name for a female. The name has an Irish origin and means "pure". Caitlin was originally an Irish Gaelic form of Catherine. The original pronunciation in Gaelic was similar to Kathleen and sometimes more like /koyt-hleen/ or /Cotch-LEEN/ but in the later 20th century the pronunciation of "Kate-lynn" was commonly used in English speaking countries, and led to the numerous respellings. According to a name etymology website Katherine (from which Caitlin ultimately derives) could also be derived from Hecate, a Greek goddess.
